Aadhar Card & PAN Card Photo Size Requirements (2025 Guide)

Aadhar Card Photo Requirements
The Aadhar card is India's national biometric identification document, issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Whether you are enrolling for a new Aadhar card or updating your existing one, you need to provide a recent photograph that meets UIDAI's specifications.
Unlike passport applications where you bring your own photos, Aadhar enrollment centers typically photograph you on-site using their equipment. However, for online Aadhar updates through the mAadhaar app or the UIDAI portal, you need to upload a digital photo that meets specific requirements.

Neutral expression: Maintain a natural expression with your mouth closed and eyes open
Good lighting: The photo should be well-lit without shadows on the face or background
PAN Card Photo Requirements

Clear face: Your face should be centered and clearly visible. Avoid photos where hair covers your face or eyes
No accessories: Remove sunglasses, tinted glasses, and unnecessary accessories
Sign the photo: For physical PAN applications, you may need to sign across the photo. Leave space at the bottom for your signature

Tips for Both Aadhar and PAN Photos
Always take a fresh photo rather than reusing an old one. Outdated photos can cause issues during verification
Ensure good lighting — natural daylight near a window works best for home photos
If uploading online, check the file size requirements carefully. PAN card has a very small maximum file size (50 KB)
Print on glossy photo paper for the best results when submitting physical applications
Keep at least 4-6 extra copies printed for future use with other government documents
If your application is rejected due to the photo, double-check the background color and file size requirements before resubmitting
